Just before Christmas I was lucky enough to be given a copy of Claire Wellesley-Smith’s ‘Slow Stitch’. I was introduced to Claire’s work by a friend who shared a short video made by The Devon Guild of Craftsmen. Her gentle and mindful approach to working with textiles, celebrates the local and the time that stitching by hand takes.
Claire suggests keeping a stitch journal – a daily place for slow hand stitching – a time that may reflect what is happening around you. And so I am starting this year with this as my intention –to daily put aside some time for me out of the circus of family life and also making to sell, a time where I can try to be more present to myself and mindful of the process.
